Phillip Roberts as City Councillor

PHILLIP ROBERTS

 Candidate - City Councillor

Professional Representation … with Fresh Ideas!

I am standing for the position as City Councillor on the Council of the Law Society of New South Wales in the 2024 elections.

It is clear to me that in these changing times we in the legal profession are facing new realities.

So my intention is to proactively support members’ wellbeing, promoting the viability of legal practices in a changing market and raising members’ concerns.

I also support retaining areas of practice and the Law Society’s role in lobbying to protect members’ interests. I have a special interest in supporting small and medium sized firms and regional practices. But I believe it’s important to serve the whole profession.

About me - my boutique practice is called PCR Law & Associates and with strengths in IT law, civil litigation, family law and wills and estates.

Many of the issues that face legal practitioners in current times are common to all lawyers whether working in small, medium or large firms, as in-house counsel or government lawyers.

I am already working on many of these issues as a Committee Member of the City of Sydney Law Society and International Bar Association. I am also a member of the North Metropolitan Law Society and the Asian Australia Lawyers Association.

When I joined the Management Committee of the City of Sydney Law Society. Shortly thereafter I proposed the formation of a new Practice Viability Sub-committee which I have chaired since then.

We have engaged in many activities devoted to enhancing the sustainability and viability of solicitors' practices. This has included activities focused on:

  • promoting a positive image of solicitors in the community

  • enhancing solicitors wellbeing and avoiding depression

  • increasing the capacity for solicitors to use technology in their practices

  • building management and business skllls particularly for operating in the modern digital economy

  • lobbying government and political leaders in regards to issues of concern to members

  • promoting discussion of access to justice issues, including legal expense insurance

  • raising funds for the Solicitors Benevolent Association which assists solicitors who have fallen upon difficulties

I am now seeking support to take this one step further by being elected as a City Member of the Council.

There is much more to do and talk about. Feel free to contact me about these issues on phillip@yourvoiceoncouncil.com
